The_Wellington_was a long range_medium bomber_designed in the mid-1930s by_Rex Pierson, Vickers-Armstrongs’ Chief Designer. The Wellingtons of Squadron No.9 and No.149 took part in the first bombing raid of World War II on September 4th,1939. Designed as a day bomber, it was widely used as a night_bomber_in the early years of the_Second World War and after being largely replaced by heavy bombers, the Wellington continued to serve throughout the war, particularly as an_anti-submarine aircraft.
